Residency Education in Geriatric Medicine
Ambulatory Care Block Months

Purpose:
For resident physicians in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine to gain experience
in the provision of appropriate medical care to geriatric patients in a variety
of ambulatory settings, both primary care and subspecialty clinics as well as in
the patient's home including assisted living settings and nursing home.
Description:
Attend clinical activities on an individualized schedule selected from the following:
- VA Geriatric Assessment
- McDonald Senior Health Clinic
- Fairhaven Retirement Center
- UAB Memory Clinic
- UAB Neurology Clinic
- UAB and/or VA Continence Clinics
- Geriatric Congestive Heart Failure Clinic
- Home Visits with VA Home-Based Primary Care Team
- Rheumatology Clinics
- Palliative Care Clinic
- VA Mobility Assessment/Falls Clinic
Attend conferences as scheduled:
- Geriatric Assessment Clinic pre-conference - Mondays at 8 AM
- Geriatric Clinical Case Conference - first Tuesdays 12 noon
- Geriatric Journal Club - third Tuesdays 12 noon
- Geriatric Noon Conference - Thursdays at 12 noon
- Geriatric Didactic Conferences - Fridays at 1:30 pm
- Professors Rounds - Fridays at 2:30 pm
